A super dive bar but they had a ton of local beer options and dinner specials that can't be beat. I got 2 pieces of Haddock with 3 jumbo shrimp, a baked potato, coleslaw, roll, and color for $6.75. My husband got 2 brats, au gratin potatoes, a roll, and cookie for $6. The service was great too!

I struggle with even giving this place one star...the food was disgusting... Very greasy and they obviously do not change their frying grease. A friend had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich that was swimming in grease...if you a stomachach, this is the place for you! Not a fan at all

Spotted cow on tap. Friendly service. Amazing cheese curds. Didn't eat here but food looked good. If u r in town go to new Glarus brewery- so fun!

Walked in here after trying a few others that had long waits. We found a table easily in the back which was almost like a storage room. There, we had some of the best hamburgers we've ever had. Very affordable at $5.50 each and washed it down with a great craft beer and root beer. We were all as happy as can be. We will be back!

Took another trip to New Glarus recently. My friends and I were having dinner next door at the Glarner Strube but it was a two-hour wait, so we decided to get some appetizers here. We walked in and sat down at a table. We waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, a waitress came by and asked if we wanted anything to drink and we were pretty much ready to order, having had so much time to look at the menu. Four people ordered cheese curds, and two ordered mozzarella sticks. We sat and talked and got the stinkeye from the locals sitting at the bar. The waitress came back out and said, "Are these separate orders of cheese curds?" Friends: "Yes..." Waitress: "Oh well I made them all together, so I was gonna put them all in one basket but if it's a separate order...." Friends: "It's fine. They can all be together." She comes out with separate cheese curd baskets. What the heck was the point of that exchange? Her tone was full of annoyance like it was a big deal that we had separate orders and when we tried to make it easier for her by saying its fine that they all come together, she was still annoyed. What do you want from us? The cheese curds were good and I'm sorry I didn't get them because my cheese sticks were awful. They were severely over-fried and dark because of it. My stomach hurt later from them and I didn't fully enjoy my dinner at the Glarner Strube, which is a damn shame. We paid and left in a hurry. We felt so unwelcome there. We weren't rowdy, or obnoxious, or messy. We kept to ourselves but apparently this is the New Glarus club and we should have stayed out. So don't worry, we won't be coming back.

I've been coming here for years and there's always a good reason to return. Excellent bar food, reasonably priced drinks and a real friendly neighborhood bar feel. I love the Bloody Mary's here on Sunday mornings and the staff really go out of their way to make you feel at home. A trip to NG isn't complete without a stop or two here.

Okay, well if you want a greasy burger this is your place in New Glarus. I wouldn't knock the place for having greasy bar food, cause it's a dive. They don't try to hide that fact either, so no sense in complaining about the nature of the food or menu. If you go here expect to see 6 variations of cheeseburgers and a few fried chicken and fish sandwiches. They do carry nearly all of NG Brewings beers, which I guess should be obvious, but it's damn good too. The fried cheese curds are purdy darn good though.

Food OK but we ordered a grilled chicken we asked about the mayonayse as it was sitting out but they said it was OK put on sandwich and it was warm and then they said it had only been out since 11:30 and it was 4 and they didn't offer to replace it and charged us for it. The atmosphere in the bar don,t fit in with the area. I wouldn't recommend this place the cook was waitress I think were the owners were rude to us. Don,t go try the other eating places in the area.

I'm going to apologize to whoever will read this review in advance because I am about to get long-winded. The service was super slow, but other than that our bar tender was friendly enough and he made some good suggestions. Great Selection of New Glarus Taps and decent bar food. Sriracha Chicken Bites were the appetizer of the month and they were different. I have a problem with tourist towns who are annoyed by tourists. I am in no way that annoying tourist who expects to be waited on hand and foot, but gatdammit if I choose to attend your establishment at least act like you want us there until we catch a buzz and don't notice. Came to New Glarus to visit the brewery and to celebrate a friend's bday weekend. Walked into this place at around 11:30PM, sat down and weren't even acknowledged until about 20-25 mins later and it wasn't busy. I don't know if they are necessarily used to "coloreds" up that way, but I felt like I was on display at the zoo. We played a couple songs on the juke box and whoever was running it kept fast forwarding them (after we paid) and some delightful man near the front of the bar occasionally yelled out "Nigger Nigger Nigger". We moved to the back to play pool and it's pretty cool back there. They have a bunch of puzzles, books, board games. Right before close as we were finishing the last of our drinks the bartender comes back to ask us to close out our tab (which we were doing anyway) because the owner is on his way and he is a "super crazy" dude and he is going to get mad that the bar is still open. Kinda made us feel like if we were still there when he came he was going to whoop our asses or something. I'm from Humboldt Park so that shit didn't scare me and I told him so, but he kept stressing it. All in all, we probably should have left, but where were we really going to go. It was too early to sit in the hotel. I really loved New Glarus and would go back, but they dropped the ball on customer service at several establishments we went to that weekend.

I've been here five times. This is an old school bar that provides reasonably priced food and drinks. Most of the time the owner has served me and has provided excellent service.

This only gets a two because the staff was so nice. Like many others we went here because the restaurant next door was closed. It was very cluttered and took awhile to get acknowledged by someone, but once we sat down the staff was very nice. We had the Mac and cheese casserole which was really easy Mac on a plate. The food was just bad and we will not be back. Rumor has it that if you go on your birthday you get five free drinks and a boot glass though, so that could be a plus if you can get past the horrible food.

Real greasy, crappy food, and the service seems to be diffident to tourists: a trait that's not gonna work in a freaking TOURIST TOWN.

Sportsman's has become my go to bar. Every visit has been great. They have $5 dinner specials nightly which are better than I can make for less. It's a friendly environment with all the small town charm at a low price.

Spent part of Saturday evening here after attempting to visit the Glarner Stube (which was too busy to get into). Upon reflection, I like Sportsman's better than the Stube... Sportsman's is hard to describe. It's a long and narrow place - brightly lit with low suspended ceilings, and a ton of clutter. There's a book collection in the "middle" section of the bar that would rival most small town libraries. There's a great jukebox sitting alongside what looks like someone's "catch-all table." The crowd was friendly and their music choices were excellent if not shocking... I did a double-take when an older farmer-type (complete with overalls) played Lady Gaga and Florence and the Machine... If you're looking for a great selection of New Glarus taps, Sportsman's has you covered. There were 6-8 NG taps, all of which were $3.50 - a steal. Other taps were $2.25 - total bargain. We sampled one of the pizzas, which was quite tasty. Crust wasn't homemade, nor was the sauce, but it worked. I'd get another one in a heartbeat. Service was friendly and attentive as well - Peggy kept our glasses full, and was plenty fun to chat with. The cook was also a cool guy - in between making meals, he'd come out and chat with folks and assist with filling drink orders. It seems like a great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Character, charm, some quirkiness, good value, and great service. What more could you ask for? We'll be back! Sportsman's Bar & Grill = WIN Food = 3.75 stars Service = 4.5 stars Value = 5 stars MISC = 4 stars Me likey. Oh - here's a tip for you procrastinators... they sell carry-outs here until midnight, and the prices rival those of Copp's. WIN.

Great spot. Local dive bar with lots of TVs. They serve all the New Glarus brews and, their brats come from the meat shop next door. I had the footlong pork brat with sauerkraut and it rocked! The brat was dense, juicy and flavorful, the kraut had bacon in it, S.U.'s cole slaw had horseradish in it (a plus) and the fries came out hot and perfectly fried. They had good mustard and the beer was great. What's not to like??? The joint screams local and I'd eat here again in a heartbeat.

This place should be featured on an episode of Hoarders. There is random crap in the dinning area near the front door and all behind the bar. The old man bartender was somewhat pleasant, but also seemed very grumpy. Stop by if you wanna watch Jeopardy with the locals in the afternoon.

My family and I visited New Glarus over the 4th of July. Found this place while walking through town. Tried the Spotted Cow and the Totally Naked (locally brewed beers). They were fantastic. Food was excellent, cheese sticks are to die for. Even though we are FIB's, we were treated well, service was quick and friendly. Looking forward to going back.

Didn't eat anything but came here on a recommendation from one of the NG employees when we were looking for an older Thumbprint beer. And to my surprise, they surely sold beer and quite a bit of it! Besides the usual suspects, we found some leftover Uff-Da and a bottle of the Unplugged Abt. 6 packs were around $7.99. Patrons were pretty helpful, the barmaid was playing dice with the customers, which is what I saw at the Glarner Stube earlier. Good place to go to look for the hard to find NG stuff.

Love this place. This is the only bar that stays open 365 days out of the year. Fred has been running this place for probably a good 25 years, or longer, not quite sure. They have a great selection of beers. Sportsman serves food til about closing time. Their pizza is alright. They have potato wedges that I seem to enjoy. They have a beautiful selection of the local New Glarus Brewery beers available. If youre ever stranded in New Glarus on Christmas day and the relatives are driving you bonkers, go to Sportsman's youll love it.

I live in Madison and drive here because it is what a local pub should be. Friendly, good food, good prices, great beer, great service. Love it.
